B.A. PSYCHOLOGY & MENTAL HEALTH STUDIES WITH A TRAUMA FOCUS
Suz Harvey
Suz is a certified Narrative Focused Trauma Care practitioner and is currently a Facilitator at the Allender Center, where she completed the Training Certificate Levels I & II in Narrative Focused Trauma Care, as well as the Externship and Apprenticeship programs. She now facilitates groups for The Allender Center’s Training Certificate Program and Story Workshops. Suz holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology & Mental Health Studies with a focus in trauma. She utilizes The Allender Method of Narrative Informed Story Engagement taught by Dan Allender of the Allender Center, attachment theory, family of origin framework, and decades of experience working with families and individuals in crises and dealing with life challenges.
When not walking alongside others, Suz can be found outside exploring any facets of nature. She loves hiking, gardening, and all creatures big and small, especially Gus, her faithful yellow lab of almost 13 years. She has been married to Aaron, her college love, for 29 years, and they are privileged to have three amazing humans for sons and now have a beautiful daughter-in-love.
I’m here to listen to your stories.
Most of my adult life has been focused on a relentless pursuit of creating a space for wounded hearts. My passion is rooted in providing a place for hurting people to be seen, heard, and loved. Growing up in the multi-cultural, ethnically, and religiously diverse city of Houston has given me the desire to honor, relate, and the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people of all ages.
No stranger to complex trauma, I spent my childhood and teenage years reading my caregivers' faces, body language, and unspoken movements as if my life depended on it. These defense mechanisms and coping strategies now serve me in the sweetest and most nuanced ways as I walk with others who have experienced harm.
I’ve facilitated sexual abuse awareness training for church staff and volunteers, co-written church policy; provided group and one-on-one narrative trauma care for churched and un-churched children and families; and practiced prayer and intercession, and lay counseling for families experiencing loss, transitions, health challenges, and divorce.
I look forward to traversing the paths that led you to where you are now. As your guide, we will wade through some of your stories of harm to find links to how you now see the world; so that you may experience a new way of seeing as we honor and hold the stories of your life.
